Towards Joshua Tree National Park.

Managed to find the Public Broadcast Channel on the TV broadcasting BBC programs and watched an episode of Dr. Martin, As time goes by with Judy Dench and Mi5. One of the many good things about not having a TV is that you can't say 'I've seen that'. Having had breakfast in the diner across the road where we had supper the night before we packed up and joined the 60, all 6 lanes going east for a really bad attack of ' Interstateal highway blues'. We have been very lucky so far on this trip and travelled very little on Interstates or main Highways, but getting out of LA you have little choice. So for the next 100 miles or so we were stuck on the 60 then the I-215 before turning north on the 62. 'Interstateal highway blues' goes some like this: (sung to a blues riff very loud to yourself)
I've got the ' Interstateal highway blues',
from travelling on this concrete far to long,
Yeah
I've got the ' Interstateal highway blues'
from not being able to see beyond that wall,
Yeah
But there are madman to the left of me and madman to the right,
All they want to do Lord is see me get uptight,
I've got the ' Interstateal highway blues'
from travelling on this concrete far to long,
Etc; etc. trying to stave off the overwhelming desire to give up the will to live.
Eventually we arrived at the Joshua tree visitor centre and were directed to the Black Rock camp ground with flushing toilets and water as the other camp sites in the park have no water. As we had arrived early and had been told by the ranger that there was going to be a 'very interesting ' presentation at Jumbo rocks camp ground that night and it was only ½ hour drive away, being Halloween we decided to go. We set off at 1800, it was dark by 1820, we arrived at 1845 having driven 37 miles and got a 15 minute presentation on the Yucca man otherwise known as Yeti or Bigfoot. There are about 100 sightings a year in North America, about comparable to UFO sightings so it must be true. We arrived back at camp rather cold after a 74 mile round trip. Sometimes you just have to laugh!
